7/12/08: Users unleash hatred for, libels against Tony Snow --- on the day he died (HuffPost: "Approved!!!")

.
Background: HuffPost had a good indication of what would happen on this thread if the radical leftists that it attracts, enables and protects were allowed to post comments on it.

Little Green Footballs documented just one instance of what happened a year earlier, when Snow left his White House job, after being diagnosed with cancer. As of June 21, 2009, the HuffPost thread is still posted, here --- replete with many of the ghoulish hate comments that were egregious violations of its (supposed) Comment Policy and Terms of Service. PDFs of that thread are available upon request, in case HuffPost decides to throw the thread down "the memory hole," at some point in the future.

* * *

At 2:00am on July 12, 2008, former White House spokesman and Fox News Channel host Tony Snow passed away after a long battle with cancer.

At 8:51am on July 12, HuffPost put up a top news thread concerning Snow's passing. A PDF taken of the thread at 9:36am (see timestamp at bottom right of pages), however, shows that HuffPost closed the thread off to user comments (see page 3: "Comments Are Closed For This Entry," and "0 Comments," "0 Pending"):

At 12:29pm, NewsBusters.org noted that HuffPost had pre-emptively closed off this thread to comments, here.

Some speculate that the reason HuffPost pre-emptively closed off this thread to comments was due to its fear of repeats of earlier incidents, in which its news threads concerning non-leftist public figures who were sick, dying or who had recently died, were inundated with comments expressing hate, death-wishes, libels, etc. All such comments are violations of HuffPost's
Comment Policy and Terms of Service. Specifically, HuffPost (supposedly) prohibits:
  • Comments that are “off-topic”

  • Comments that contain “ad-hominem attacks”

  • Comments that “celebrate the death or illness of any person, public figure or otherwise”

As HuffPost's resident "gang" of hard-leftists* were prevented from expressing their hatred for Snow, and their glee at his passing, on the HuffPost thread dedicated to this story, they began venting their hate on a nearby, unrelated news thread.
(*Who go apoplectic whenever someone says anything untoward regarding a Democrat or leftist public figure, and often petition HuffPost to ban users who express opinions with which they disagree --- a request that HuffPost routinely honors.)

It must be noted that as is documented in Section (5) here, on March 1, 2008, HuffPost began fully pre-moderating user comments on its news threads. This means that all submitted comments first go into "pending," and only those that had been reviewed and approved by HuffPost would appear on its news threads. This is further confirmed in Section (7) here.

Thus, all of the following took place four months after this new procedure was implemented.

thread --- McCain Campaign Had Protestor Holding "Bush=McCain" Sign Removed From Event --- HuffPost reviewed, approved and published the following,
while 63 other comments were "pending" its review:

Roger Ailes, chairman of Fox News, called Sn*w a "renaissance man."

it appears to me that as long as you look OK and can lie with a straight face, it does not matter if you get caught lying. [...]

Helms and Snow in one week-the world is a better place without both of these regressive forces. Sad but true.

Sad to see anyone die of cancer but this AP article is a stretch at best. "Popular figure around the country"? Only on Fox Noise, right wing radio and the White House was Tony Snow popular.

A person who dies is the same person who was alive--no better no worse. Sometimes it seems a person almost turns saintly the minute they die . He sold out to cover up for Bush and that was a shame. Trading one's integrity in the name of politics didn't serve him well. It doesn't anyone. […]

Like the kind words expended regarding the vile racist Jesse Helms, these defy the reality of what this man was, a shill for the most criminal executive branch in history. A shill who demonstrably supported an administration that has killed more innocent Iraqi's than Saddam ever did. A man who bloviated without end in self-righteous indignation at those who would even question the motives of the worst President in history. Simply, a shill for criminals.

I did not agree with Tony much, especially when at the podium he lied for Bush every day.
That said, I hope St. Peter will ask Tony, just what were you thinking? before he opens the gates.

Can't say that he changed life's for the better, a good waterboy he was for sure. Many people die everyday that are really good people and who have made a difference in this life to many people and don't get covered. He was definitely one of the best lairs to have ever been born. See ya, but I wouldn't want be be ya.

Sometime later on July 12, HuffPost once again shut down the Tony Snow thread to comments.
(What a shocker.)

Below are 6 pages of the PDF of this thread. Note that on page 1, it shows that 33 comments were pending HuffPost's review, while it reviewed, approved and published all of the above:
