Here we have a case of HuffPost knowingly permitting its users to libel an entire nation and religion, due to the alleged acts of one man.
According to its Comment Policy & Terms of Service, HuffPost prohibits comments containing libels, and slurs based on race, religion, ethnicity, etc., and claims it removes such posts --- after the fact. Yet as is documented here, in reality, HuffPost has been pre-moderating its news threads since at least March 2008 --- meaning that the only comments appearing on its news threads are those that it has reviewed, approved and published.
Also see the Addendum for definitions of "prejudice" and "libels," to determine whether or not HuffPost lived up to its own stated policies in this regard --- or whether it flagrantly allowed certain users to violate them.
On March 19, 2009, HuffPost put up a headline:
Moshe Katsav Charged With Rape
The first few paragraphs of this story, which HuffPost accessed via the AP, read as follows:
JERUSALEM — Former Israeli President Moshe Katsav was indicted Thursday on rape and other sexual offense charges, after calling off a plea deal that would have allowed him to escape jail time.
The 63-year-old Katsav was charged with raping a woman who once worked for him, in addition to lesser sex crimes involving two other former employees. The indictment was filed in Tel Aviv district court nearly three years after the case broke.
Well that's a pretty dramatic charge --- against one man. Yet with all the important news occurring in March 2009, HuffPost chose to run this story pretty prominently, as shown below, by placing it among the top story-teasers:
At the time we reviewed (and captured in PDF) this thread, HuffPost reviewed, approved and decided to publish a total of 10 comments, while 2 comments were "pending" (awaiting HuffPost review and approval, or rejection).
So what kinds of policy-compliant comments from among HuffPost's self-professed readership of millions of "thought-leaders" did it reviw, and decide to publish?
