8/26/10: UNIFIL issues report on border shooting; HuffPost spits in the eye of Lt. Col. Harari, et al, a second time

.
.
Fresh on the heels of this explosive HUFF-WATCH report, which documented how HuffPost downplayed, then ignored the story of IDF Lt. Col. Dov Harari, once it became clear that he was murdered by Lebanon, along comes more proof of HuffPost's blatant anti-Israel, anti-Semitic bias in its "news" coverage.

On August 25, UNIFIL released its report on the Lebanon-Israel border firefight.
Its finding? Although the report has not yet been publicly released, here is how Israel National News summarized it:
Lebanese soldiers shot IDF troops in an unprovoked attack earlier this month, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced Wednesday, as it released the findings of its investigation into the incident [...] The report, which was sent Tuesday to the United Nations, was forwarded to both countries on Wednesday.

The AP, HuffPost's #1 source of news,
carried it. The Jerusalem Post, which HuffPost accesses stories from when it wants to, carried it. China's news agency carried it. Even the Lebanon Daily Star carried it, and admitted the correct findings:
Israel’s cutting down of a tree on the border with the southern village of Adaysseh sparked a firefight on August 3, which killed two Lebanese soldiers, one Lebanese journalist and a high-ranking Israeli officer. UNIFIL’s report on the probe, issued on Wednesday, reiterated that trees cut by the Israeli Army were located south of the Blue Line on the Israeli side.
And here's a video report filed by the AP (click image to play):

But HuffPost, the #1 most-read blog in the world, a top-ten U.S. "news" site, which claims it is "nonpartisan" in its news coverage, and dedicated to "ferret[ing] out the truth, consequences be damned,"
decided to not run this story.

Why?
And why would HuffPost run the original story on its front page, only so long as it appeared Israel was at fault --- then quickly move to to a secondary page, then remove it altogether, when it became clear that Israel was the victim? Perhaps someday, someone in a position of influence will ask HuffPost to explain itself.

So which stories (pulled from the wires) did HuffPost decide were more important for its global readers to be aware of --- on its front page --- than the murder of Lt. Col. Harari, and Lebanon's broader provocation?

Here's a partial list (screencaps follow):
  • Oldest chimpanzee on record is pregnant
  • A man lives in a van outside foreclosed home
  • The wristwatch Michelle Obama received from Barack (during their 12th vacation since he became president)
  • A man with no arms becomes a baseball pitcher
  • Rachel Maddow is getting married

You get the idea.
And in regards to HuffPost's willingness to use its "reporters" to generate original stories*, here are some examples of the vitally-important tasks to which it assigned some of them in the past week --- and promoted on its front page, instead of anything regarding the murder of Lt. Col. Harari:
(*In which its staff writers compile reports from other sources, then stitch them together into a singular narrative)

Bottom line:
Apparently not having been satisfied with spitting in the eye of Lt. Col. Harari, his family and loved ones, the IDF, Israel and Jews everywhere with its blatant double-standards, HuffPost decided to do it a second time.

ACTION ITEMS

If you share our view that HuffPost's actions in regard to the story of LtC Harari's murder --- and its pattern of anti-Israel, anti-Semitic bias --- are reprehensible, we urge you to do two things:
(1) Forward the link to this story along to others who support Israel

(2) Make your voice known to HuffPost's senior management (politely, please), here. You may even ask them:
  • If HuffPost's advertisers are aware of its pathological bias against Israel
    .
  • How HuffPost would like it if pro-Israel activists organized a "Move Your Advertising" campaign against it, similar to the "Move Your Money" campaign that Ms. Huffington concocted against big banks, which she's hawked throughout 2010 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

================

UPDATE 1, August 26: HuffPost somehow missed this video of a radical leftist supporter of the Ground Zero super-mosque, cursing a Holocaust survivor: "You didn't learn your lesson!!"

How could HuffPost's crack team of 53 "editors" not be aware of, and post this video? It's only all over the conservative blogosphere at the moment:

Must be another... oversight. Nothing whatsoever to do with HuffPost's pathological anti-Israel, anti-Semitic bias:

UPDATE 2, August 26: HuffPost somehow missed this JPost article, citing Finland's head of Amnesty Int'l. calling Israel a "scum state"

Yes, another "peace" activist, supposedly dedicated to "tolerance," impartiality and human rights, denounces the only state in the Middle East that actually honors human rights. And yet, HuffPost's crack team of 53 "editors" --- which use the Jerusalem Post for stories, when they want --- somehow missed its coverage of this story:
"A friend of mine who works in Israel, was visiting while piling wood in the shed, we got into his favourite topic. Several years of residence in the holy country, he has come to the conclusion that "Israel is a scum state". On the basis of my own visit, which occurred during the 1970s and 1990s for the final time, I agree."
And it's not like the story was exactly hidden (as HuffPost likes to bury stories of murdered IDF officers):

Just another honest oversight on HuffPost's part, we're sure.

HT: TundraTabloid for blustery original reporting on this story.
