Summary: Today's episode of HuffPost's egregious pro-Islamist, anti-Semitic bias in its "news" coverage of Middle Eastern events encompassed several acts we've documented before:As you'll see, however, HuffPost went way-large on everything today --- namely its bias, and the photos it chose to employ to honor a Palestinian who was killed while attempting to murder an Israeli security guard.
- When militant Islamists initiate acts of savage violence against Jews, HuffPost does everything possible to downplay (or ignore) it
- When militant Islamists are killed in the course of, or as a result of perpetrating their terrorism, HuffPost gives them top-line, personalized, photo-rich treatment; yet the Jews they murder or maim, and the families left behind, get downplayed or no coverage
If you come to share our outrage over HuffPost's actions, and would like to make your voice known to its senior management, see Action Items at the end.
Here is the headline that HuffPost published on September 22, 2010:
Violence Erupts In East Jerusalem, Clouding Peace Efforts (PHOTOS)
Let's just think about that headline for a moment. Can violence "erupt"? If people are walking down a city street, does "violence" overtake one or more of them? Or is the word "erupt" used in a more generic sense, such as in a weather report: "Thunderstorms erupted over the city during rush hour..."
No, violence doesn't "erupt." Someone causes it. But when you see a headline like this at HuffPost, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's working hard to protect the perpetrators. (This is exactly what HuffPost did in this instance, when it insinuated that peaceful Tea Partiers who were savagely attacked by socialist thugs were equally responsible for the violence: "Tea Party Protest Turns Violent.")
Now, let's go to the copy in HuffPost's story:
"Clouds Palestine Peace Efforts," eh HuffPost? Not "Israeli-Palestinian Peace Efforts"? Not "Palestinian-Israeli Peace Efforts"? Of course not. In HuffPost's "nonpartisan" opinion, only the Palestinians are making gestures towards peace (inbetween their savage attacks on, and threats against Israeli soldiers and Jewish civilians).
Let's take a look at that copy:
AP JERUSALEM - Crowds of Palestinian youths violently rampaged in east Jerusalem Wednesday following the shooting death of a local man, clouding fragile peace efforts even as the Palestinian president signaled he may back away from threats to quit negotiations if Israel resumes West Bank settlement construction.
Could HuffPost's crack team of 53 "editors" (presumably trained by Arianna Huffington, its Editor-In-Chief) really miss that opening copy, by the AP?
Now, let's explore a bit about that "local man" who was shot:
Clashes erupted in the Silwan neighborhood shortly after a 32-year-old Palestinian man was killed by a private Israeli security guard watching over Jewish families in the area....
Israeli police said the man, Samir Sirhan, had a criminal record and was shot overnight after a group of youths pelted the guard with stones.
Young men and boys with their faces covered with T-shirts to avoid identification... hurled concrete chunks and rocks at paramilitary police and demanded revenge... stone throwers attacked Jewish worshippers at the adjacent Western Wall, the holiest prayer site for Jews.
But wait, wasn't there another, slightly more detailed account of what happened --- and who Sirhan really was, and what he was doing that got him killed? Why yes there was, from the acclaimed DEBKAFile --- published at about the same time as the AP story:
Israeli police stormed Temple Mount Wednesday Sept. 22 where Muslim worshippers barricaded themselves inside the Al Aqsa Mosque after they rioted and threw stones below to the Western Wall. The police did not enter the mosque. On the Mount of Olives an Israeli was stabbed in the back and moderately injured.
Four Israeli policemen and four Israel civilians were injured in the riots spreading around the Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem and the Old City. They erupted at the funeral of Samir Sirhan, who was killed earlier in Silwan by an Israeli security guard shooting his way out of a mob ambush closing in on his car.
Sirhan, who was known to the police, was part of the mob and found armed with knives and a screwdriver. The funeral party hurled rocks at passing Israeli civilians and police brought in to restore order and torched Israeli cars.
HuffPost chose not to bring in other accounts that present a contextual account of what really happened today.
Next, let's take a look at the pictures HuffPost chose to run --- in blazingly huge format --- of Silwan and the rioting Palestinians:
The copy that the red arrow points to reads:
Palestinian mourners carry the coffin of Sami Sirhan during his funeral [...]
Wow, that's some pretty large coverage of a funeral, isn't it? Here's another huge picture in HuffPost's slide show tribute to Sirhan:
But then again, Sirhan was a militant Islamist, killed as he attacked an Israeli security guard, who was trying to protect 400 Israeli settlers from 30,000 Palestinians.
===============
Contrast the above to the fact that HuffPost gave no coverage --- zero --- to the heart-wrenching photos, documented here, of the funeral for the four Jewish civilians that were recently murdered by Hamas terrorists.
Meet Hodoya Imes, 9. According to HuffPost, she doesn't exist. Like those of Mr. Sirhan, the above photo was taken by an AP photographer, HuffPost's #1 news source. Here, Hodoya was weeping at the funeral of her father and mother --- who was nine months pregnant --- when both were machine-gunned to death in an ambush by Hamas.
As documented in detail in HuffPost's pathological anti-Semitic bias: Children's edition, however, HuffPost gave this funeral zero coverage. None. Instead, it decided to run stories of injured animals, celebrity gossip and color photos of Hitler --- for a week.
Here are some more photos of the funeral for Hamas's victims that, according to HuffPost, didn't merit even a mention of any kind:
As documented here, HuffPost also chose to ignore all of Hamas's follow-up attacks on Jewish civilians, and threats to murder many more. HuffPost decided that the victims, including a young girl with potential brain injury, were not even worth mentioning.

“The editorial stance of the Huffington Post is to debunk the right-left way of thinking, which has become completely obsolete."
- November 14, 2007
“[T]oo many reporters have forgotten that the highest calling of journalists is to ferret out the truth, consequences be damned...”
- July 29, 2008
“[W]e are increasingly seen ... as an Internet newspaper, not positioned ideologically in terms of how we cover the news.”
