Why militant Islamists love HuffPost: 6/10/11 Temple Mount riots edition

.
On June 10, 2011, HuffPost once again decided to use photographs and headlines in a way that could only serve to incite hate against Israel --- and evoke sympathy for militant Islamists. And as you'll see, HuffPost got exactly the response that could have been anticipated from the radical leftists and cyber-jihadis who flock to the site.

Haaretz
played an AP story of Palestinian rioters pelting the Israeli police with rocks at the Temple Mount "straight," relying on facts and an actual photo of the incident.

At 8:00am EST on June 10 (3:00pm Israel time), Haaretz, the left-leaning Israeli newspaper that HuffPost regularly cites, ran this story by the AP (HuffPost's primary source for news) about Palestinians rioting at the Temple Mount, one of Judaism's holiest sites:
Israel police and Palestinians clash at Temple Mount in Jerusalem; Police use stun grenades to disperse crowd after Palestinians lob stones; order quickly restored, no one injured.
"Police entered a sensitive Jerusalem holy site to disperse Palestinian protesters who were hurling stones on Friday. The scene of Friday's violence was the Old City compound known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary."
Note the fact that Haaretz ran the photo that the AP provided, of Palestinians hurling rocks (see right; those are far bigger than "stones") at Israeli police:

So how did HuffPost decide to play this story? Pretty much as it always does: by depicting Israel's attackers as victims --- and Israel as the
aggressor.

Two hours later, at 10:03am EST on June 10, HuffPost published its version of the same AP story. Instead of correctly identifying and depicting the aggressors and the victims in this incident, however, HuffPost chose to:
  • Word the headline of its version of the story to claim that the Palestinians were merely "protesters":
("Israeli Police Quell Palestinian Protests At Jerusalem Holy Site")
  • Disregard the AP's photo of the Palestinians throwing rocks
  • Seek out and employ a picture that is not of this event --- which depicts Palestinians as meek little lambs, praying behind an iron fence, guarded by a lone, beefy Israeli soldier:

Take a closer look at that photo. Does it remind you of anything? Say, Jewish prisoners lined up in neat rows at Buchenwald, perhaps?

Or during roll call, before a lone Nazi guard, at Oranienburg?

So why would HuffPost decide to ignore the actual photo of this event, and instead seek out and use a picture of imprisoned Muslims, in a pose as if they were being forced to bow down and pray to a lone Israeli soldier?

Perhaps someday, someone in a position of influence will ask HuffPost to explain itself --- and how its actions in this story conform to its supposed journalistic standards (below).

Notable Quotes:
"If you're going to produce great journalism, you have to build a team of people who are working together and driving toward the same goals editorially.”
– Arianna Huffington, April 7, 2011 --- two months after being put in control of all of AOL's "news" and "content"

"AOL's acquisition of HuffPost has allowed us... to continue to change the culture here."
--- Tim Armstrong, Chairman, AOL, who bought HuffPost and put Arianna in charge of all "news" and "content" --- May 14, 2011

“[T]oo many reporters have forgotten that the highest calling of journalists is to ferret out the truth, consequences be damned.”
- Arianna Huffington, July 29, 2008

HuffPost's incitement created a predictably false impression among the radical leftists and cyber-jihadis it attracts, and protects --- then, as usual, enabled them to voice their hatred towards Israel and Jews.

Here's a sampling of the user comments that HuffPost reviewed, approved and decided to publish, in response to this latest act of incitement:

Israel defines "defending themselves" as repressing legitimate resistance to the occupation.

In Israel, the only demoncracy[sic] in the middle east, Palestinians are not allowed to protest, even on their own land.
Jews however have the right to not only protest, but to steal, commit arson ang generally brutalize the indigenous population.

It is clear to virtually all unbiased observers, even to Jewish ones such as myself, that the only genuine claimants to the land west of the Jordan river are those Arabs whose families have occupied the territory, unbrokenly for over a thousand years. They are the only indigenous people of that land - not those Americans and Europeans who left good homes in order to settle illegally on occupied territory.

Huffington Post uses the word "quell" in its headline.
A forceful invasion of a holy site during prayer time and use of stun guns is not the definition of the word quell. Zionists smashed wine bottles on the holy site and have made a deliberate provocation.

Some of the many previous incidents in which HuffPost pulled stunts like this --- using photographs to incite hate against Israel and Jews, and whitewash the actions of militant Islamists:

The following items are just a few that we've excerpted from our Archive of anti-Israel, ant-Semitic bias, libels and hate at HuffPost:
(At right) HuffPost publishes anti-Semitic blood libel without any proof; users unleash anti-Semitic hate (HuffPost: "Approved!!!")

Is HuffPost even more anti-Israel than Al-Jazeera? Yes

HuffPost twists headline to incite hate against Israel, protect Hamas (again); predictable user hate-fest ensues; HuffPost: "Approved!!!"

(Below) The HuffPost-PallyWood propaganda machine, unplugged
In late 2009, nearly 70% of Palestinians voiced their support for suicide bombings against civilian targets. A few months later, HuffPost published the following as its front-page splash headline. Don't miss our sarcastic take on it --- and a chronology of all the stories that HuffPost had been ignoring, in order to perpetrate this Hamas-emboldening fraud:

HuffPost uses a fake picture to further humiliate, smear a gay Israeli ambassador

Special Report: The Stimulus And The (Approved) Response: Anti-Semitism and Israel-Hatred on Huffington Post

Conclusion & Action Items:

Was this HuffPost's latest effort to incite its 700,000* unique monthly visitors who originate in Muslim-majority nations --- including 250,000 per month from the world's three primary incubators and exporters of Islamist terror and anti-Semitism: Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan (*up from 350,000 six months ago)?

Or was it merely HuffPost's effort to use its status as the #1 most-read blog on Earth, and a top-ten U.S. “news” site, to continue inciting hate against Israel and Jews throughout the world?

Do you think HuffPost's advertisers know what it is that they are enabling?

  1. The Huffington Post continues to let radical leftist jihadists run roughshod over the editorial choice for it's articles and blogs and the moderators and comments that appear along with those articles and blogs. No matter. Their game has been thoroughly unmasked.

  2. @ silverdog:

It may be unmasked as you say here (thanks!), but we need to get the word out, because if you look at the top and along the sidebars, HuffPost still has major advertisers, and still has Congressmen and -women writing articles for this e-rag.

We need to make them aware of the ugliness and incitement to which they are hitching their wagons and their reputations.

I don't speak Hebrew but I asked some friends who do to translate your comment. I learned that it basically means: "the photo of Arabs, prostrating to God willingly and the photo of Jews in Auschwitz by force"

I respectfully disagree. The Arabs are lined up, outside, praying behind a big gate, with a sole Israeli soldier facing them, in full battle gear.

Yes, they are doing so willingly, but keep in mind what the story was about: Israel "quelling protesters." To the uninitiated, it would appear as though the IDF had corralled these Arabs (Palestinians) into this area, and they decided to pray.

Bottom line: This picture had absolutely nothing to do with the story. So the question becomes, why would HuffPost seek out and choose this particular one, rather than to use the actual photo that came with the story, of the event?

My argument, and I stand by it, is that HuffPost deliberately sought to create the impression of a prison-like environment in which the Palestinians are the docile victims, and the depersonalized IDF soldier, his back to us, fully armed, is the villain.

And I stand by my assessment that the only images that come to the normal person's mind when one considers what HuffPost was trying to achieve are pictures of innocent people in a prison camp - lined up neatly.

It is for this reason that I compared them to WWII images of Jews lined up in front of a single German soldier. Because this is exactly the association that the malicious editors at HuffPost were trying to create; I merely took it to the literal length that they merely suggested.

  5. We need to stand as a nation with Israel, and it appears from what I understand of the HuffPost that as it is a major branch of Soros propaganda machinery, that is why it takes such a series of hard and radical inflamitory stances against those of Israel.

The destruction of Israel is one of Soros's most important goals in the area; and his allies are united in the common goal of destruction of their long time enemy.

HuffPost must be called to task and accounting for its part in any actions if or when violence comes against Israel, as does the administration for abandoning our one ally in the region.
