7/13/09: Obama meets with Jewish leaders; users unleash hate (HuffPost: "Approved!!!")

.
Summary: This article is a "three-fer."
(1) We get yet another glimpse into HuffPost's almost uninterrupted, myopic cheerleading for Obama --- particularly in regards to his discriminatory, confrontational stance against Israel. It is the only nation in the world to whom he dictates, contrary to his supposed acceptance that nations must enjoy self-determination... including certain genocidal ones who are hellbent on acquiring nuclear weapons.
(2) This is another example of how HuffPost uses photos (and in this case, lack thereof) to accentuate the above.
(3) This is another instance in which, by employing the above tactics, HuffPost throws out the proverbial "red meat" to its resident constituency of Israel-haters and anti-Semites (domestic or...?), whose hateful comments --- in reaction to this incitement --- it reviews, approves and decides to publish.

This was one of three "news" stories HuffPost published today and yesterday concerning Israel (see here, here). On each of them, it obligingly reviewed, approved and decided to publish the usual assortment of libels against Israel and its military, along with good old-fashioned anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and hatred as well.

First, let's take a look at the "teaser" that HuffPost published atop the page concerning the main story of the day --- the Sonia Sotomayor hearings:

Wow. In advertising terminology, that's called "the money shot." This isn't even a political picture, it is a campaign picture. In a confrontational setting, who could possibly against this handsome, positive-appearing man? Why, only that datsardly Jewish lobby, of course.

Which reminds us --- when Netanyahu visited Obama, HuffPost employed photos to make Obama look... mahvelous, while making Netanyahu look... well, not. See the story here (and a follow-up, here, documenting how HuffPost even makes genocidal madman Ahmadinejad look civilized, while making Netanyahu look... well, not).

The story page is located here --- and was filed by HuffPost's White House "reporter," Sam Stein.

Excerpt (emphasis added):
In an hour-long meeting at the White House on Monday, President Barack Obama assured Jewish leaders that he was demanding as much sacrifice from the Arab world as he was from Israel. He also declared that the media, eager to find a story where there wasn't one, had over-emphasized conflict between the U.S. and Israel in regard to settlement policy.

The mid-afternoon gathering with key leaders from several Jewish-American groups was to address a small but growing concern among pro-Israel advocates that the Obama White House has been overly tough on their side of the peace process equation, especially in demanding an immediate freeze to settlement activity. But according to Ira Forman, head of the National Jewish Democratic Council, the president hit all the right notes during Monday's meeting.

"You could tell in that room that this is a president with great popularity in the Jewish community," Forman, who attended the event, told the Huffington Post. "People obviously asked questions about Israel. But it was a very comfortable audience. I sensed no tension whatsoever."

Note: We must have missed the global vote in which Obama was elected dictator of the world, being that he is "demanding sacrifice" from a sovereign nation, Israel. That aside...

From Stein's description, Obama's meeting with these Jewish leaders was pretty non-confrontational and positive.

Which, we presume, is what incited such an outpouring of anti-Semitic hate, libels, conspiracy theories and even calls for genocide from HuffPost's users --- most of whom it has allowed to post comments for a long time.

Could at least some of the most vicious of these users, who call for genocide and post boilerplate
pro-Islamist libels and propaganda, be among the estimated 135,000 of HuffPost's monthly visitors coming from Iran and Pakistan (see Section 4.3 here), two of the nations most responsible for fomenting and exporting Islamist terror? Who knows.

Or maybe this is all part of a right-wing conspiracy to make HuffPost look bad, as Ms. Huffington and some of its official bloggers have speculated since 2006 (here, here, here). Except that conspiracy theory is no longer operable, as Huff-Watch has documented in great detail here, since March 2008 HuffPost should have no problem with "trolls," because that is when it began pre-moderating all user comments on its news threads.

In any case, we believe that many of the following comments --- among the 247 that HuffPost reviewed, approved and decided to publish --- are extremely disturbing, and constitute explicit or implicit anti-Semitism (see here for a definition).

In case you haven't done so already, you might also want to review Answering The Libels, which helps the honest observer to discover the truth behind the most vicious lies that users espouse on this thread (with HuffPost approval).
As you review these comments, it's worth keeping in mind HuffPost's Comment Policies and Terms of Service, which (supposedly) prohibit ethnic slurs, ad hominem attacks, libelous and off-topic comments, etc.

(These comments are presented in chronological order; PDFs of the thread are available upon request)

The Chosen people of Israel are finding it difficult that they don't have a fundamentalist lamb in the White House now. Though everyone knows Obama or anyone else can't do anything. The Middle East is the bayou of the world, where crap collects itself and spawns more crap, and there is not a crapping thing that can be done, to clean up crap.

So less "God" talk and more "international law" talk. Time for the world to force Israel into compliance with international law. Anything less than this is unacceptable.

I'm getting sick and tired of this nonsense. I understand that Jews suffered but THEY ARE NOT the only one. I'm tired of them acting like their victimization trumps everyone else. ENOUGH. Lets be fair. Its like they expect you to be with them 110%. Thats BS.

When I somebody like yakaria claim to speak for all Jews as if there was no dissent in our community I want to scream. Many of us are extremely angry at Israel and oppose the occupation of Palestine. We don't want our names associated with ethnic cleansing, pogroms by the settlers against Palestinians and the general thuggery of the IDF.

Well, if Clinton was the first black president; there is no reason why Obama should not be the first Jewish one. And he could claim to be just that. Wonder why AIPAC has not jumped on that bandwagon?

Whenever the press says the phrase "Jewish leaders" you can usually translate that into pro-Israeli Zionists who support the occupation of Palestine and attempt to suppress legitimate criticism of Israel. [...] My leaders speak out against the war crimes Israel commits against Palestinian civilians.

Why does Obama need to calm Jewish leaders? What happened? Has Israel given up anything? Is the sky falling? Are Israelis having to pack up and leave the West Bank?
No...I don't see why their feathers are in a ruffle: Palestinians are still living dire conditions under military oppression while settlers are living the high-life stealing their land and water resources to fill their swimming pools and water their lawns.

I don't know about you, but I voted for President Obama because he promised change. Obviously it's business as usual with our "ally" in the Middle East. Where was the Presiden in addressing the act of piracy and kidnapping of a former U.S. Congresswoman and Irish Noble Laureate that occured just 2 weeks ago? Guess he was busy working on his statement to this particular special interest group. When words are fired certain groups get ono on one attention. When shots are fired others simply get ignored.

[...] Yeah, Israel is always right, they have to be, they say they are the "Moralist People and Army in the World" and the "chosen" of God They just refuse to act good and Godly, or follow their own Gods laws against killing and coveting.
Instead of acting like Jesus, the real "King of the Jews" who was all love, kindness and brotherhood; they act like a million Satans, the original Hebrew definition of "Antagonists" to
peace and love.
Compromise is loves device and Israel never compromises.
Only Satan would say he was "moral" while he was killing Gods children for a coveted spot of dirt on the world God made the whole of.

^^ I agree. Not all jews of course, but certainly Zionist hardliners and the "religious right" within Judaism, those who condone settlements, expansionism, etc etc. Part of the reason 9/11 occurred in NYC was in order to strike a blow against what the terrorists considered to be a financial power center of Zionism.
