4/8/09: One-sided coverage of "Outlandish Statements" from the Middle East

.

If this wasn't so disturbingly humorous, it'd be... "outlandish."

HuffPost appointed one of its reporters, Stuart Whatley, to develop this story, which appeared on April 8, 2009:

The story is linked here:
Avigdor Lieberman Roundup: Most Outlandish Public Statements

Basically, in this historical chronology of his statements, Lieberman urges a hard line against Palestinian terrorists, and an approach to fighting them that will minimize the loss of Israeli lives.

Shocker there, being that Israel's endless negotiations, surrenders of land, provisions of aid, etc. have all worked so well to stop militant Islamist terror against its civilians and soldiers. The outcome of Israel's recent election was a direct result of the unmitigated string of failures to negotiate a real "peace" with those who, by their own admission, are sworn to its destruction.

What HuffPost defines as "outlandish" is debatable. What is not debatable, however, is the fact that HuffPost has not covered (let alone trumpeted, as in this case) the "outlandish" historical statements from the "official" political and religious voices on the other sides of Israel's borders --- in Gaza and the West Bank --- as articulated by their sources, or their progenitors.

For example, here is Hamas's and the Palestinian Authority's little-known, common "solution" to the Israel issue: The murder of Jews, and the theft of the Jewish state

And here are Hamas's glorious words of peace, diplomacy, tolerance, diversity, inclusion, understanding:
  • "We will not rest until we destroy the Zionist entity" (January 2009)

  • "Suffering by fire is the Jews' destiny in this world and the next... Therefore we are sure that the Holocaust is still to come upon the Jews" (April 2008)

  • "Jews are a people who cannot be trusted. They have been traitors to all agreements. Go back to history. Their fate is their vanishing." (April 2008)

  • "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it... There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors." (Hamas charter, 1988)

Without the proper context into which Lieberman's statements should be placed, it is easy to arrive at --- or be stoked by --- one-sided "coverage" of Middle Eastern affairs, and to subscribe to the views that so many HuffPosters express, which HuffPost routinely approves and publishes on its news threads (more here): that Israelis (and/or Jews) are warmongers whose blood-lust cannot be placated, and all U.S. aid and support for Israel should be cut off, until they learn to act in a "civilized" manner.

Were HuffPost to place Lieberman's statements into such a context, it might incude some of the following recent videos from Hamas-dominated Gaza --- to which the Obama administration will soon be sending $900 million of U.S. taxpayer dollars:

Will HuffPost decide to do a corresponding chronology of the "outlandish" statements by those who are sworn to Israel's destruction, yet who are disguised (and promoted by certain websites) as activists who only seek "peace," and who are only fighting for a "homeland," after which all will be flowery? (Wait, didn't we hear that if Israel would only retreat from Gaza, which it did in 2005, that would be the result? Oops... that didn't work out so well.)

All the above was the result of about 15 minutes of simple research using the Google. Is that too much time for "The Internet Newspaper" to spend, to present a "fair and balanced" depiction of "outlandish" statements emanating from the Middle East?

Time will tell.
